A New Take on DAASV’s Friday Afternoon Happy Hour: Wine Time!

Mixing after-work “wine time” with art!

Please join us for a Friday Happy Hour in Palo Alto.  It is a great opportunity to get to know or catch up with your fellow Silicon Valley Dartmouth Alums. But this Happy Hour comes with a difference: It’s “Wine Time - with Art!”

The famous Pace Gallery in Palo Alto has offered to host Dartmouth Alumni for wine and cheese in their Hamilton Avenue gallery - while one of their curators gives us a tour of some pretty spectacular and massive sculptural pieces by the famous and ground-breaking New York artist, Louise Nevelson.

Nevelson took up a fair amount of space - literally and figuratively - in the New York art scene in the 1960s and early ’70s. She was one of the most prominent artists of her generation, and with a truly iconic personality, was a force to be reckoned with! She was known for her imperious personality and a love for false eyelashes, large hats, heavy jewelry, and chinchilla capes!

But she was also known for taking the concept of a collage of “found pieces” to a whole new level. Her work started with smaller pieces, but quickly evolved into truly sculptural work - enormous collages of wood and metal, painted in the most uniform black or white you have ever seen! She took that concept many steps further, creating large sculptures still on display in New York and elsewhere.

Pace has brought to Palo Alto a collection of both her smaller collages and the large 3-dimensional pieces for which she is universally known. And Pace is generously offering to host us for some wine, cheese, and …. art!

Come join your fellow Dartmouth Alums - and be prepared to be entertained!
