Pre-pandemic, DAASV has helped out at Second Harvest Food Bank, one of the largest food banks in the U.S. Second Harvest is still in need of volunteers (as well as monetary and food donations), and is starting to hold food sorts again, although not on Saturdays.
As the holidays approach, there are evening sessions at Cypress Center in San Jose. We have selected Thursday, December 9, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm to have a DAASV group help sort food.
Please register yourself and your party with Second Harvest as an individual(s) to sort food at the Cypress Center location on December 9 at 6pm (name the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Silicon Valley as your organization) and please register here as well so we can keep track of the DAASV volunteers.
Masks must be worn indoors. Food sorting usually involves quite a bit of lifting and bending, but there also are less physical tasks such as box making. The dress code at the Food Bank is casual and comfortable, but given the time of year it is recommended to dress warmly. No shorts and no tank tops are permitted. Closed toe shoes and long pants are required.
