What happens when you take 192 laser beams and multiply the power more than a quadrillion times in five millionths of a second to create a single 500 terawatt peak flash on a small pellet of deuterium and tritium? You get fusion, of course. But, don’t try this at home. See bleeding edge fusion science up close as the DAASV tours the National Ignition Facility (NIF) with a Dartmouth alumna tour guide.

Everyone will need to get badged in before coming on-site, so we will meet at the badge office at 1pm and then enter the site and drive over to the NIF building.  The tour will begin at 2 pm and last for an hour. Our tour guide will be Laura Berzak Hopkins, Dartmouth Class of '04.

There is no charge for this tour. However, advance registration is necessary and will close on August 12two weeks before the date of the tour, to make sure everyone is pre-entered into the security system. At that time you will be contacted for the information required by the badging process.

An informal gathering for wine tasting after the tour will be held at a winery close to NIF for those who are interested.
