Speaker: Dr. N. Bruce Duthu, Chair of the Native American & Indigenous Studies as well as the Samson Occom Professor at Dartmouth College.  He has a law degree from Vermont Law School and has worked as a lawyer. More recently, he won an Emmy for his work on Dawnland, a documentary on how Maine’s child welfare practices impacted the Native American community.

Topic: "The US Supreme Court, the Brackeen Case and the Implications for Tribal Sovereignty.”

Come join us for a timely community discussion on Native American Affairs discussing the Brackeen v. Haaland case to be heard by the Supreme Court on November 9. The event is sponsored by the Dartmouth Silicon Valley and San Francisco Clubs. Joyce Hammel, Associate Director, Leadership Gifts for the West Coast at Dartmouth, has invited Dartmouth parents to attend and will supply a light reception post-talk so that people can continue the conversation. Members of the American Indian Cultural Center will be in attendance, as will Yurok Chief Judge Abby Abanati, who was featured in Hillary and Chelsea Clinton’s docuseries based on the “Book of Gutsy Women” aired in September on Apple TV. She is deeply involved in this issue and will add great insight to the discussion.

There is no charge for this event. However, please register so that we can get a good count for the post-talk reception.
