Join fellow Dartmouth and MIT alumni on Saturday, May 16 for an afternoon at the Oakland Museum of California. The fun starts at 12pm with an optional self-paid lunch at OMCA's Town Fare Cafe, followed by a guided tour of Good Fire: Tending Native Lands at 1pm. The exhibition examines how Native communities in Northern California have used controlled burning as a precision ecological tool for millennia: managing fire-dependent plant communities, supporting biodiversity, and sustaining healthy ecosystems long before modern land management science caught up. Led by OMCA's Director of Philanthropy with trained gallery guides, the tour features basketry, regalia, fire-scarred tree samples, and artist works that illuminate the deep connections between Native stewardship practices and the ecological science of fire across OMCA's 7-acre campus. Agenda: 12:00pm - 12:45 pm: Optional self-paid group lunch at OMCA's Town Fare Cafe 12:45 pm - 1:00pm: Check in with tour guides in front of the Ticketing Desk 1:00pm - 2:00 pm: Guided tour of Good Fire: Tending Native Lands 2pm onward: Explore everything else OMCA has to offer! The museum closes at 5pm Know before you go: 👟 Wear comfortable clothing and shoes to move in. 🥙 You can join us for a Lunch at 12pm at OMCA's Town Fare Cafe (Lunch is self-paid and optional) 📍The tour meet point is in front of the Ticketing Counter between 12:45pm - 1:00pm Who can come: Adults and Kids are welcome. Getting here: 🅿️ Parking: The OMCA garage is located at 1000 Oak St. with entrances on Oak and 12th Streets. Parking fees are $5 per hour with an early-bird discounted flat rate of $20 (in before 10 am, out before 5 pm). Those parking before 8 am and leaving before 10 am will pay the regular incremental rate. Garage hours: 6 am—7 pm. Open late until 9 pm on Thursdays Jan—Mar. Open late until 10 pm on Fridays April—Oct. Members receive a discount with validation. ADA and families-with-stroller parking is available on the top level of the garage. Additional parking is available at the Alco Parking Garage located at 165 13th Street at Jackson Street.
